Cookies are great for pretty much any occasion so why not make some festive cookies for the autumn season? These decorated pumpkin cookies are perfect for a fall feast, Thanksgiving or perhaps Halloween. They are fairly simple to make and they only require 2 icing colors.

I wasn’t hosting a dinner of any sort so I decided to put them in individual bags with a small circle cookie and tied them with orange satin ribbon to give out to my daughter’s classmates. You can also put them in a nice bakery box and give them to the host of a dinner you may be going to. You can of course eat them yourself too!

To make them, I baked a batch of sugar cookies and cut them out using a 1.5″ Circle Shaped Cookie Cutter and a Pumpkin Cookie Cutter. I was able to make 20 of each cookie for a total of 40 cookies.

The Icing:

Once the cookies had cooled off, I mixed up a batch of royal icing and colored 2/3 of it orange and the other 1/3 of it green.

I put each color of icing in a piping bag fitted with coupler and #2 decorating tip.

*You can also buy Royal Icing Mix and follow the instructions on the package. I haven’t personally tried it, but if you have, I would love to hear about it!

To Decorate:

I piped a green swirl onto each circle cookie, and left them to dry.

Next, I piped the first layer of orange icing onto each pumpkin, then added a green top for the pumpkin handle and allowed the icing to dry for at least8 hours.

Then I piped curved orange lines onto the pumpkins and let it dry for about 3 hours. This part didn’t take as long to dry since it was a smaller amount of icing.

Lastly, I piped green curls onto the pumpkins and let them dry before putting them in Cello Bags

The kids really enjoyed them!

Linking up to some of these fun parties!
