My little girls love ladybugs. They have ladybug socks, ladybug clothing, ladybug hair clips and many other ladybug items. When I am trying to get a project done and need to distract them with something, I usually ask my husband to make some sort of craft with them. Since they get excited about ladybugs, we thought, why not make ladybug hats!

I have all sorts of card stock in my craft room along with glue, and googly eyes from the kids craft bin.

To make ONE ladybug hat craft, you can use:

1 sheet of red 8.5 x 11 inch card stock

1 sheet of black 8.5 x 11 inch card stock

2 Googly Eyes

scissors

glue or tape

white pencil crayon

Instructions:

Fold the red card stock lengthwise, then cut along the fold. Glue the short ends together to form a cylinder (hat).

Cut a half circle out of the black card stock to make the face of the ladybug. Also punch out black 1 inch circles for the dots, and 2 squiggly antennas. The antennas are about 5 inches long and I used a circle punch tool to punch out the circles. If you do not have a circle punch, you can simply use a quarter and trace circles onto the black paper, then cut them out. OR draw the dots onto the hat using a black marker.

Glue the googly eyes onto the half circle (rounded part is the top), and use a white pencil crayon to draw facial features. The nose, mouth etc.

Glue the face (half circle) onto the hat along with the antennas and dots.

My girls wanted to add little pink hearts to the ladybug so my husband cut out little hearts from pink paper and they glued them onto the antenna tips.

These are lovely. Ladybugs are probably the prettiest insects – if an insect can be considered pretty!

This is such a fun, simple project. My 4 year old would love creating ladybug hats.
