When preparing for a party, I like to be as prepared as possible. I usually like to make as much of the food and desserts as possible and my sister is the same way. Prepared store bought food is convenient, but can get expensive so we do what we can to save wherever possible. One way scratch one item off the “day of” list of things to do is to make non-edible cupcake toppers. My sister asked me to make the treats for my nephew’s first birthday party so I Β made paper cupcake toppers soon after she decided on the theme and colors for the party. It was a “cute as a button” themed party in turquoise and yellow.

They were easy to make and didn’t require many supplies.

Supply list:

Lollipop Sticks

Glue Dots

Cricut Machine (optional)

Cricut New Arrival Cartridge OR button die cuts (I found some at my local dollar store and craft store)

Cricut Sweet Treats Cartridge OR 2″ Scalloped Circle Punch

Circle Puncher (Optional)

Card Stock in colors of your choice

There are a few ways to make these cupcake toppers. I used my Cricut Machine to cut out the scalloped circles and buttons. For the “Happy Birthday”, “Cute as a Button” and other worded circles, I simply typed the words spaced a couple inches apart in a word file and printed it out. I then used my circle punch to cut them out.

If you don’t have a circle punch or a Cricut, You can use a small round object with a 1.5″ diameter to trace around the words and then cut it out using scissors.

In place of the scalloped circles, you can use a round object with a 2″ diameter to draw circles onto the card stock of your choice, then cut those out for the background. Another option would be to use a 2 inch scalloped circle punch to punch out the scalloped circles.cupcake decorations

How to:

Glue the layers of the front of your cupcake topper together.

Tape the lollipop stick onto the back of the cupcake topper.

Place a glue dot on either side of the lollipop stick, and press a blank scalloped circle on top. (this will hide the taped part of the stick)
