I made a quick and easy little chalkboard with the chalkboard contact paper that I had leftover from my other projects. It’s a very versatile item, and the only thing I have to decide now is where to use it! You can of course make it much larger if you want it to be more of a traditional chalkboard, but I wanted to have a smaller portable one.
My nephew used it today to send a birthday message to his friend. So cute! It’s such a portable item that I can use it for parties to decorate the food tables, place it at my front entrance with a welcome message, write an inspirational quote and place it in my sitting area, leave notes for my kids, or even use it at my nephew’s birthday party for the photo booth. Yes, my sister is having a photo booth with various props. Check back for the details on that and how to make your own photo booth!
In the meantime, to make your own chalkboard/message board, here is what you need:
Chalkboard Contact Paper
Cardboard (I used a cereal box)
Scissors or Rotary Cutter
Cut the cardboard to fit inside the frame (I used the paper that came inside the frame as a stencil).
Place the cardboard on the chalkboard contact paper and cut around it.
Peel one corner of the backing of the contact paper off and align on cardboard. Slowly peel back the rest, and ensure you smooth it down as you go. Rub out any air bubbles. (You can always peel and restick if you don’t stick it to the brown cardboard side)
Place it in the frame, and you’re all done!
If you have chalk ink markers, they are great! The message in the first picture was written with a gold one.
Linking up to some of these fab parties!
Have a wonderful day!
