Decorating sugar cookies can be time consuming or really quick, depending on the method you choose and how elaborate the cookies need to be. Generally, most people love any tasty cookie as long as the don’t have to do the baking! At least that’s how it works among my friends and family.
To keep things simple, I sometimes just make a basic sugar cookie and choose a fun shape to cut out. Then make them look pretty by decorating with sanding sugars
Crowns and high heel shoes are always fun shapes. The shoes of course are mainly for the girls, but the crowns can be made into any color which the boys may like too. Perfect for little princes and princesses! Sanding sugar comes in many colors. However, for these cookies, I chose to use some bright springtime colors.
To make these cookies, you will need:
Sugar Cookie Dough (frozen or from scratch)
Sanding Sugar in your choice of color(s)
*Using mini cookie cutters is much more time consuming, so if you are in a bit of a hurry, I would use a full size cookie cutter. In which case, I would pour my sanding sugar onto a large plate rather than into a small bowl for dipping. Another option for the full size cookie is to leave it face up with the wet royal icing on it and pour the sugar on top of it, then lift the cookie and tap off the excess sugar.
