When throwing any type of party whether it’s a baby shower, bridal shower or a birthday party, good party food is always one of the top priorities. I believe that the variety of food is just as important as having the right quantity of food. I can’t count how many times I have been to a party where some of the guests left hungry, because there either was not enough food or the food wasn’t enjoyable.

Of course, it’s difficult to please everyone, but it doesn’t mean you can’t try. Lol.

To avoid cooking and preparing food around the clock, days before the party even starts, I simply go shopping two days before the party and prepare as much as I can the night before the party. Then the day of the actual party, I cook everything and get things ready to be served.

This brings me to my list of 5 easy appetizers for a party! Some of them I make and others I simply buy and bake in the oven or arrange on a platter!

1. Frozen pre-made appetizers such as mini quiche, sausage rolls, and mini egg rolls. I love the idea of these really easy appetizers, because I simply put them in the oven to bake just before the guests are scheduled to arrive. They are hot when everyone is ready to start snacking and I have time to mingle with guests.

2. Tea Sandwiches– These are pretty simple to make and I usually make the filling the night before. I usually stick with simple fillings such as egg salad or tuna salad. For the tuna salad, I simply open a can of chunk light tuna, drain it and put it in a bowl. Then I add some pepper and 2 heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise or my favorite salad dressing. (Creamy Dill dressing usually works well!) For egg salad, there is a good recipe here. I refrigerate the filling/s overnight and then cut the crust off of the bread before putting the sandwiches together an hour or so before the party starts. Be sure to cut them into 4 strips, triangles or squares so they are bite size!

3. Vegetable Platter– A vegetable platter is a staple at any party I throw, because it is so easy to put together and is a colorful addition to the appetizer table. For this snack, I simply purchase pre-washed broccoli florets, pre-washed and peeled baby carrots, grape or cherry tomatoes and then the only thing I have to wash and prepare are the bell peppers, zucchini or cauliflower. I add a small bowl of ranch dressing for dipping and it’s all set! This wonderful platter can easily be prepared the night before and refrigerated.

4. Any type of dip such as guacamole, spinach dip, or salsa. Serve them with tortilla chips, pita triangles or pumpernickel bread cubes. Most dips taste better the day after they are made, which is a bonus since this means that they can be prepared the day before the actual party. They can also be purchased from the grocery store if you prefer not to make them yourself.

5. Cheese Platter– A cheese platter can easily be bought from the grocery store, but it is almost as easy to make one yourself. Making it yourself may take a little more time than simply purchasing it, but it will save you some money! For a cheese platter,  I simply pick up a nice box of crackers, a block of mozzarella, 1 block of old or medium cheddar and 1 block of marble cheese, which is essentially a mozarella & cheddar mix. I cut the mozzarella into 3/4″ cubes, then cut the cheddar into 3/4″ cubes as well, then to mix it up, I cut the marble block into rectangular strips. Finally, arrange them on a platter with the crackers and it’s all set! The cheese can be cut the night before and refrigerated in an airtight container.

Those are my easy appetizer ideas for a party. They are pretty simple to make and provide a nice varitey for guests to snack on. I would love to know about any other fun and easy appetizers. Feel free to share yours in the comment section!
